Puppy classes have now been in vogue for the past 10 years or so. This is a great way to engage with clients and puppies. Socialisation is vitally important nowadays. We as a profession have come to recognise the need for socialising puppies at an early stage so that they grow up as well balanced, well mannered, and well behaved pets. Fortunately thanks to modern vaccines, puppies can be protected from a much earlier age now . This means that mixing and socialising can start from 10 to 11 weeks of age. Even before this traditionally “safe period” following vaccination, measures can be implemented by owners to start the socialisation process. As a Pet Health Care Centre we are strong advocates of using every socialising measure to ensure that puppies develop properly behaviourally. The rewards of these measures can now be seen in the practice . It is a pleasure to see dogs rushing in to the premises to be greeted by the nursing and grooming staff. No fears of injections or nasty experiences at “the vets” , just memories of cuddles , treats and loads of attention.
