The practice doors were opened to the public for our first major “Practice Open Day” on 15th August 1997.We were very fortunate in having a lot of co-operation and help from major drug companies such as Novartis and Interevet. Jennifer Brown from Petplanthe market leading pet insurance company came along and gave a very informative talk on the benefits of sickness and accident insurance for their pets.Every member of staff mucked in and helped make the day a great success. Byrony Holt a local countryside ranger brought along Barnie thebarn owl and gave a very informative talk about her work as a countryside ranger in the local Muiravonside country park. We were all fascinated at just how tame and relaxed Barnie was. We ran competitions such as “Guess the weight of Jess, my 6 year Border Collie bitch” just to bring attention to weight watching in our pets. The importance of radiography in the diagnosis of specific conditions was well to the fore and examples of patients with bladder stones ,foreign bodies, repaired fractured legs and heart disease were illustrated. Refreshments were provided, after a complete tour of the surgery premises and there were plenty of opportunities for questions to be asked and answered. We would certainly want to hold another open day in the future.
