This Xray picture was taken after the patient had been anesthetised. The radiographic technique is called a pneumocystogram, and involves air being introduced into the bladder. The contrast provided by the air gives a black colour and the small dense stones can be seen as areas of white/grey in the middle of the bladder. The stones were surgically removed and the patient "JD" has now made a full recovery.
